I’m not quite sure how I missed Battle Dome back in 1999-2001, but I just found out Hulu has every episode from Season 1 up and you need to go watch a few. I dare you to at least make it through one episode. If you can do that, you’re either into watching trainwrecks in slow motion like I am or you’re just trying to look tough by doing it because I dared you to. Either way, you’re in for a treat if you do decide to watch this Frankenstein monster mashup of ‘rasslin backstage drama and what amounts to a slightly better than backyard pretend playtime version of American Gladiators. It’s got these Gladia-.. I mean Warriors that have crazy names like “T-Money”, “Cuda”, “Michael O’Dell” who also happens to be Titan from the new American Gladiators. Holy shit, it IS him! Only 8 years ago or so. And he plays Michael O’Dellllll ok I get it, keep it simple. Everyone else has a cool nickname, Titan had his real name slightly altered.

Along with your expected cast of characters that didn’t really function much as a team as they were in competition with each other for the Battledome Belt. This leads to the backstage drama stuff and between matches or contestant runs even, the show will sometimes have T-Money and his crew come in and call out the Warrior going against the contestant. Or maybe we’ll see the bumbling biker “Jake Fury” roll in on his chopper with his woman and get into a fight with the Warrior for whatever reason. It’s over the top and of course very, very scripted and horribly acted at times. I must say Michael O’Hearn does a good job for his role which probably led to his other acting roles as cheesy as they may have been.

The show’s play by play is called by Marv Albert’s brother and Scott Farrell who is known for his gravelly voice on his radio shows. He brings a bit of humor to the show and Steve Albert holds his own as well. The production values are a slight step below the first American Gladiators, only the arena is much brighter it seems overall. It gives it almost a local Saturday night wrestling arena look and the set pieces look a bit rough sometimes. I’ve seen a couple of events where the buttons on certain set pieces were malfunctioning but overall, the events themselves were fairly interesting. They have this one that is brutal called Aerial Kickboxing and that shit is rough. You have the contestant hanging on one end of this mid air setup of rungs and the Warrior on the other end. They go at each other and the contender must take down the Warrior before the time expires. Well, what sucks is, in every Aerial Kickboxing event I’ve seen, the contestants have been up against this guy:

O’Hearn is a champion with a resume a mile long. You can see him as Team Captain Titan in American Gladiators. In addition to 4-time Mr. Natural Universe titles, O’Hearn is also a 4-time Power Lifting Champion, and Iron Warrior: Decathlon of Strength Strongman Champion. He is a well-rounded athlete with a background in natural bodybuilding, strongman, power lifting, and martial arts.

*Martial arts background* and I’ve seen him face kick the opponents with those huge horsey legs over and over ratta-tatta-tatta punching bag style until they fell. It’s BURTAL man. Another event has the opponents hanging off of the ends of this tower as it spins and a warrior or two or his cronies are up above on a platform tossing down medicine balls. I don’t want to spoil anymore, but if you’re into checking out horrible shows from almost a decade ago (or awesome shows, however you see it), go watch it on Hulu.
